Sermon Archive (Page 10)

We are in the process of updating this page to include recent sermons from our Interim Pastor, The Rev. Dr. Robert (Bob) Livingston. Recent worship services can always be found on our YouTube page.

Below you will find the audio and video recordings, as well as text, of sermons from Pastor Liz and guest preachers. Edgewood also has a dynamic lay preaching program that all church members are invited to participate in. Lay Preachers meet as a group to learn about the sermon writing process, workshop their ideas, and practice preaching. Each lay preacher has an opportunity to give a sermon on Sunday morning during the year. You will see some of those sermons in this archive.

Lenten Forgiveness Series: “The Effects of Forgiveness” – Pastor Liz Miller

Preacher: Pastor Liz Miller Date: April 7, 2019 Text: Isaiah 6:1-8   There are cultural moments we experience together and years from now can still recount where we were or what we were doing at that exact moment. Where were you when JFK or Martin Luther King Jr was assassinated? Where were you when the space shuttle Challenger exploded? Where were you on 9/11? There are monumental events that shape our lives – events we look back on and realize…

Lenten Forgiveness Series: “Brotherly Love & Deception”- Pastor Liz Miller

Preacher: Pastor Liz Miller Date: March 31th, 2019 Text: Genesis 50:15-21 I know there is a cultural myth that religion and science don’t go together or are somehow oppositional to each other.  This isn’t true at Edgewood – we have many scientists who also happen to be people of faith in our church community – and I wish it wasn’t true in any church. This should be expanded on in a different sermon on a different day, perhaps a lay…

Lenten Forgiveness Series: “Jesus Blows a Gasket” – Pastor Liz Miller

Preacher: Pastor Liz Miller Date: March 24, 2019 Text: Mark 11:15-19 We’ve been exploring forgiveness these last few weeks, and one of the hardest parts of forgiveness to talk about is anger. Anger often comes after someone is harmed or hurt and before we can even think about forgiveness, we have to deal with those feelings of anger that are present. We might feel anger when someone asks for our forgiveness or expects it when we aren’t ready to offer…

Lent Forgiveness Series: “Staying Forgiven” – Harold Beer

Preacher: Harold Beer, lay preacher Date: March 17, 2019 Text: John 12:1-5, John 13:21b-30 I’ve been writing a essay on my blog just about every week since I preached about a year ago. These essays take maybe two or three minutes to read, and take at least two or three hours to write. Honestly, Pastor Liz, and to all our other clergy members, I don’t understand how you can write a new sermon every week. I looked at my essays, my…
